Fourth of July weekend is upon us, and as a sendoff I am proud to present to you Photogenics MAG No.12 The Summer Issue! I’d like to thank everyone who contributed their hard work and talents in the name of creating images and providing a platform for artists to share their work. We’re doing our thing over here on the West Coast, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without you. Happy Independence Day. – M-

A booming congratulations to our boy, Nate Mitchell for his latest editorial in British GQ featuring Spring/Summer Designer collections and for landing a spot in the SS ’15 Diesel Campaign. Your Photogenics Fam is so proud! Check out this rad video by one of our OG photographers, Nicholas Maggio and Andy J. Scottt as well as the full Diesel Campaign.
NEW EDITORIAL: Daphne Groenveld looking better than ever for Vogue Netherlands Feb 2015. Looks like we’re starting the coming new year off right.
It’s always nice seeing photographers you’ve worked with from the beginning “testing” days on the pages or websites of the best magazines on the planet. It makes you feel like you played a part in the success of artists around you, and in this case, it’s the dynamic duo Steve Mada who last year made a colorful collection of shots featuring our resident rainbow child, Chloe. Here’s to LA’s perpetual summer blues…and a long lost editorial rediscovered.
PhotogenicsMAG Issue No.10 is up!!! Many, many thanks to all the photographers, make up artists, hair stylists, assistants, stylists, and models who collaborated with me on this issue. Stay tuned for our annual printed Art Book Issue coming out early next year which will include all new stories and some of our favorites from 2014. XOXO – photogenics.
We’re loving the eye-catchingly colorful latest from Teeth Mag featuring our lovely Jade McSorley. Sometimes we need a little refresh and reboot before all the dark and moody ensues and we’re neck deep in sweater piles (make no mistake though…we LOVE said sweater piles) but it’s always nice to see a little color now and again. Take it in….
Paris Fashion Week is upon us, and I can’t wait to start sharing updates from the runway, but for now here’s a video collaboration from Guess Jeans + Elle Mexico featuring Marga and Clinton and music by our VERY good friends The Buttertones.
PhotogenicsMAG Summer/Pre-Fall Issue No.9 – Another amazing experience putting together this issue. Many thanks to everyone involved, including cover story photographer, David Cortes, as well as Arielle Manesh, Diane Jong, David Shama, and Nicci Arone/Yudo Kurita.
Photogenics has known Jonathan Waiter for quite some time now. We first came across his work when he was living and making photographs in Los Angeles 6 years ago, and we’ve been following his progression and forward moving art ever since. He’s now based in NYC and creating the most hauntingly beautiful images I’ve ever seen. We’re lucky to have such talent in this world. Cheers to you, Jonathan!
Check out his recent work for A Magazine Curated By featuring our other worldly, Alyona Subbotina.
“After the Belgian poet Albert Giraud, photographer Jonathan Waiter and stylist Brett Bailey explore the symbolism of the moonstruck Pierrot, the sad clown, and her pantomime romance.”
She’s done it again. Another beautiful cover to add to her ammunition. Check out Carola on the cover of L’Officiel Mexico’s July issue!
Hey Guys…Kelly’s back in town this week. You all know her as the girl who took the industry by storm when she first walked on the scene as the face of Prada FW/11 campaign and then subsequently shot for every important magazine from Vogue Italia, British Vogue, i-D Magazine, Dazed & Confused, LOVE…. you name it.
She always has love for her west coast Agency, and that’s why she’s here. Welcome back, Kelly!!! <3 Photogenics.
Check out highlights from her latest editorials or her full portfolio here
Who can keep track of the Vogue covers on this girl?! She just keeps racking ’em up. Feast your eyes on this lovely summer beauty story in the latest Vogue Italia Beauty Issue.
Get it, girl!!! Congrats! xoxo – the team at Photogenics.
The simplicity, rawness, and spontaneity that comes through in this Swiss-born photographer/documentarian’s work are the qualities that I was immediately drawn to when I met David sometime last year. In a time where so much of fashion photography has become this scary mess of over-styled, overly contrived, way too over conceptualized work, David is a naturalist at heart and believes in the small moments that make up a grand and beautiful scene. The dirt, the sweat, the grime…and the pretty girl with sad eyes and a determined smile – these are the moments David captures on film through his travels and editorial work while at home in Paris and New York. Here are some highlights from his portfolio and a few from his story featured in photogenicsMAG Issue No.5. – M –
BOOM!!! Our first “moving issue” is now available for your viewing pleasure. Really proud of how far we’ve come in 8 releases, and it’s only getting more and more next level.
This issue includes a cover story by Emman Montalvan, and work by Mario Kroes, Danielle DeFoe, Nicole Anne Robbins, Anouk Morgan, and a super duper dope animation story by Yudo Kurita.
Shot by Max Farago…wuddup!!! Congrats, Avery!
John Blaine, you cheeky devil! Thanks for the signed copy of Sorbet Magazine featuring Photogenics lovelies: Amy, Lucy, and Masha.
It’s the end of the year, and we’re celebrating tonight with the launch of our very first Art Book and the grand opening of our new space. Each release is another milestone that marks the journey of Photogenics…where we came from, where we are now, and the endless possibilities to come. The way we see it, the sky’s the limit. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to what we feel is what makes us who we are. These creative projects are nothing without you. Much love from all of us at Photogenics.
Kablaaahw!!! Dropping the 6th issue feels so good, you guys, but I also feel like I just birthed a child. Again, a big high five and sincerest gratitude to everyone who contributed. I’m stoked to have you all as colleagues and homies.
For all you Spotifiers, I made a quick playlist of all the tunes I was listening to while laying out this issue. You can find me under Melanie deJesus and the playlist is called PhotogenicsMAG Issue No.6. And if you’re not already on Spotify, you should be. For real. It’s EVERYTHING.
To everyone who follows Photogenics, have a bitchin’ end of the summer and get ready for our fall issue. Lots of surprises to come. – M-
It’s Monday. BLEH. Really…The worst day of the week, but while so many people out there are grinning and bearing through the day, begrudgingly going through the motions, I get to come to work and look at pretty photos all day and then go make music when I’m done. #sorrynotsorry. Not a bad way to start off another week, and for that I am tremendously grateful. There’s something to be said about getting to do the things you love for a living, so to everyone reading this: We have to dream big. Settling is not an option. Our sanity depends on it…and so on and so forth.
It’s a LOOK.BOOK.LOVE kind of day, and I’ve decided to feature our babe-of-all-babes, Daria P. in “Cry Baby” For Love and Lemons Summer ’13 shot by Zoey Grossman. Another on-point concept styled by Nasty Gal senior stylist and Purse’n Boots blogger, Ashley Glorioso. …and damn, girl. THOSE LIPS!!! I want it all.
So here we are with another Monday under our belts. Let’s just brace ourselves for the week ahead and be eternally grateful for the good, shall we? What other way is there? -M-

So, check it. I’m all about giving props where props are due. I think I’ve even used that line in a previous post…maybe a few different posts…and I’ll keep saying it. #IDGAF. It feels good to give dabs because I know what it’s like to pour your heart and soul into something until you’re lying there bleeding all over the floor. I know. It’s a little dramatic, but creatives can attest. Seriously, that’s how it feels. It’s funny, we all say we do it for the love or for the art, but come on. Sometimes it’s nice to be recognized for a job well done.
It’s undeniable that lately our family of clients have been stepping it up artistically for what we used to dismiss as “unusable images.” Now, a look book is an inspired, editorial take on line sheets, a creative outlet for many brands who are looking to make their distinctive stamp known and not forgotten. So, I’ve decided to add a section to our blog to showcase the best of the best.
Welcome to LOOK.BOOK.LOVE (Vol. 1)
First up: a new men’s brand called Chapter headed by our buddy and creative director, Devin Carlson. It’s actually been out for a while, but it’s the one that inspired me to do these posts in the first place. So here it is. Look on, and get lost…

I feel like fashion enthusiasts all over the world are waiting patiently, yet not so patiently at all in anticipation. They’re waiting to catch a glimpse of Hedi Slimane’s debut collection for the design house formerly known as Yves Saint Laurent. What will he bring to such an already legendary giant in the fashion world? Will it RULE super hard, or will it fall short of great expectations?
As a huge fan of French-born Hedi Slimane and his work as a designer and photographer, I have no doubt that this collection will mark the start of a brand new chapter in French fashion. The change seems well-received, and honestly, perhaps this injection of So-Cal love will do Paris some good. Whether people know it or not, California is such an incredibly awe-inspiring place to create, and there’s a reason Hedi has made it his home for the past 6 years. It’s my home, our home, and I’m excited to see if he brings a piece of it back home with him as the new creative director of Saint Laurent.
In the meantime, I’m catching up on some Hedi Slimane Diary and peeping editorials like this recent story he did for Vogue Homme Japan to get ready for an inspiring show and a stellar first collection.

OK, so I’m really excited about this one. A couple months ago, I asked Carolina Palmgren to shoot a fun Fall story for me in New York featuring our firecracker of a model, Carola Remer, and now I finally get to give you all a little sneak peak. I couldn’t be more stoked about the stellar team and collaborators: stylist and fashion editor Angela Esteban Librero of METAL MAGAZINE, make-up artist Fredrik Stambro @ Streeters, and hair stylist Shawn Mount.
Stay tuned for the full story set to release next week.

I have a special “hump day” announcement today. Actually, “the hump” is old news at this point, because, as a lot of you know, I’ve been slaving away for the last few months producing, art directing, styling, and collecting collaborators for this online mag., and I’m so happy to announce that the first round of editorials is going up in the next day or two. So, KEEP CHECKING BACK!!! It’s pretty much the coolest thing I’ve gotten to do for the agency over the years, and I can’t wait to see these bad boys up and ready for your viewing pleasure.
Here are a few sneak peak outtakes so you can get PUMPED while you wait:
