I grew up between Miami, FL and Montevideo, Uruguay. I speak English and Spanish, but am fond of languages and, in between biology classes and pre-veterinary requirements at UC Berkeley I’ve been learning Portuguese and a little Mandarin. My family is one of the few Chinese-Uruguayan families, making up less than 1% of the population.

FEDERICO KONG

Growing up as a Queer minority had its challenges, which is one of the reasons I left Uruguay to pursue an education. It’s become very important for me to be able to find communities where I can prosper and meet other people like me. In my free time I enjoy going for walks around my neighborhood and discovering/foraging fruit trees, visiting my hummingbird friend on campus, cooking, learning about new dishes from different countries, and creative writing.
