DESIGNER FEATURE / GABRIELLE ROSENSTEIN: 3D ARTIST & DESIGNER
October 11, 2024 | interview by MELANIE DEJESUS | ALL IMAGES AND VIDEOS BY GABRIELLE ROSENSTEIN

There's something so nostalgic for me about Gabrielle's work. The inner anime kids from eras past can surely relate, but she has married fashion design with 3D art in a way that's fresh and exciting. I needed to learn more.
Here’s our conversation where we discuss her creative process and her thoughts on AI.
P: Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to know Photogenics.
G: I’m Gabrielle Rosenstein, artist-first designer, weaving my digital illustrations and 3D origins into accessories and collectibles. Pretty sure I found Photogenics through a Gumi (great brand) campaign earlier this year – I loved the photography, and the rest is history.
P: If you had to describe your work to a stranger off the street sight-unseen, what would that sound like?
G: Sci-femme fantasy, currently inspired by the mahou shoujo concept, ditzy-girl untethered, 3D renders of chrome characters as accessories and printed fabrics.

P: I realize this is the AI Issue, and yet, you don’t currently use AI in your creative process. I reached out to you because your work speaks volumes about the advancements and the marriage between art and technology. Do you see AI as a potential collaborator in your work down the road? Why or why not?
G: I’m down to try anything digital, but I haven’t felt a calling to use AI in my art practice. If I were to, I’d be curious how it could reimagine existing 3D characters/imagery through those animated simulations. It’s not that I see AI as a shortcut, I can accept it as a form of expression/art, but it would take some of the pleasure out of my workflow.
